Serendipity Purse PATTERN STITCH
(Multiple of 18) The Organic Colorgrown Cotton and Chenille uses size 4 needles. Cast on 126 stitches, a multiple of 18 stitches. Work in the Pattern Stitch; I used one pattern sequence of chenille and one pattern sequence of 3/2 cotton. This bag works nicely with any type of novelty yarn…use your imagination! If your yarn is larger you can use a larger needle. I used some organic rayon/flax chenille in this bag. It’s larger and gives a nice novelty affect. Eyelet rows: knit (stocking stitch) for 2 rows. The next row make a series of eyelets by * K2, yo 1, K2 tog * this gives an odd number of eyelets. Then knit two rows, (stocking stitch). Continue in the pattern stitch. When you have 9 inches, you can degrease the last row and pull the tail through all the stitches on the needle with a crochet hook. Draw it closed and stitch the sides together if using two needles. Secure the tail firmly. With a large crochet hook chain two lengths for the drawstring with a strong smooth yarn. Make two about 28-30 inches long. Thread them through the eyelets and pull opposite from the other for two handles. Another way to do this is to knit in the round. You can use either double pointed needles or circular needles. Again cast on 126 stitches work the pattern for two sequences. The altered pattern looks like this: Row 1: knit Row 2: knit Row 3: * (K2 tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (K2 tog) 3 times, rep from * across Row 4: purl |
